Carolyn Swait died this morning at 53 years old. She was the wife of Joffre Swait, mother of Joffre, Jonathan, and Jennifer, grandmother of Renata, Joffre, George, and Alex, and the most wonderful mother in law. May she rest in peace.

We're so glad we were able to be a part of Carolyn's service Saturday. We will always remember her just as she was in the picture you displayed--full of life, knowledge, and love for God and her family. We love you all and are praying for you. God's peace.

I had the chance to meet Carolyn in Brazil, in the late 80's, some time before they left to their long journey to North America. Joffre and I worked together, at IPT, a research institute, in Sao Paulo. Joffre also was my MSc thesis supervisor. At that time I learnt to admire him and his lovely family, the kids, Joffre, Jonathan, and Jennifer, and how their mother was as inspiration and light for them. Many years later, destiny took me to Gainesville, FL, for a sabbatical at the UF. Again, our destinies were reunited in 2003 and I had the chance to be close to Carolyn and Joffre. I was living alone, had left my family in Brazil, and Joffre and Carolyn’s place was a kind of second home away from home. I had the chance to spend Thanksgiving with them in 2003, and I felt all the warmth, all the love that surrounded the entire family, and also Kimberly, Jennifer’s fiancĂ©e, Carolyn’s mom, the lovely Renata…. I felt as if I was really part of the family, and very fortunate to be with all of you. May she be in peace. She shall be remembered as a lovely and very special woman, who dedicated her life to her family, who raised their children with all her love, giving the best of herself. And she must be very proud of it. May the whole Swait family find the light and the strength to cope with this tragic loss, to accept and understand the wishes of God, and to continue to live your lives, being sure that she is with the Lord, and looking for all of you, and smiling, proud of you.
